As previously announced, the Library’s website is moving to a new vendor due to our current vendor closing down. The launch of our new site is scheduled for today, Wednesday, Sept 10 - and possibly into tomorrow. We are keeping our website address (sharonpubliclibrary.org) so this should be a seamless transition, with no interruption to service anticipated. If you experience issues with the website today (Wed, Sept 10) please contact the Adult Services Dept at reference@sharon.ocln.org. Thank you for your patience as we make this change..

Thanks to funding provided by the Digital Commonwealth, Sharon Public Library has been able to digitize parts of its historical collection to provide off-site access to the following:

Deborah Sampson (Samson) Gannett Collection

Deborah Sampson, also known as Deborah Samson, is a famous and beloved local hero. Born in Plympton, MA in 1760, she is renowned for having disguised herself as a man in order to fight in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Sampson served for 17 months under the name Robert Shurtlieff before being honorably discharged in 1783. After the war, she married Benjamin Gannett and the two settled in Sharon, MA, where the Gannett family farm was located.
