The Carpeno History Room and its historical materials are available to be viewed by the public. Appointments are strongly preferred. Please view The Carpeno History Room’s main finding aid to decide if our collection will be of interest to you. A finding aid lists all the materials an archive has to offer, as well as providing some historical context. The full finding aid can be accessed by clicking HERE. When reaching out, please be sure to include information about your subject matter and the types of materials preferred.

The collection is mainly comprised of print materials related to the history of the Town of Sharon, including the following:

  • Books and documents relating to the history of Sharon (or Stoughtonham, as it was originally named).
  • Images and postcards of Sharon views, sites, buildings, and residents.
  • Maps and atlases of the area.
  • Personal manuscripts and other materials that record the history, experiences, and ancestry of Sharon individuals and families.
  • The Deborah Sampson Collection (the first known woman to impersonate a man in the U.S. Army when she served as a soldier during the American Revolution).
  • Sharon Annual Reports, Town Meeting Warrants, and Street Lists.
  • Vital Statistics: births, deaths, wills, and epitaphs.
  • Sharon High School yearbooks (Marsengolds), dating back to 1930.
  • Records that chronicle the history of Sharon organizations and institutions.
  • Materials that record the social and cultural heritage of past and present ethnic, immigrant, and religious groups in the community.

All patrons must fill out our Archival Registration Form to visit The Carpeno History Room. The registration form is valid for one year, and needs to be completed only once.
